== Description ==

The Wiki Lunch and Learn is a knowledge-sharing event designed to increase awareness and understanding of Wikimedia projects among staff and institutional stakeholders at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. The session aims to strengthen institutional engagement with open knowledge initiatives while encouraging greater participation in Wikimedia platforms and the broader open-access movement.
Through presentations and discussions, participants will be introduced to key Wikimedia projects and explore how these platforms can support research, documentation, public engagement, and knowledge dissemination. The event will cover important topics including open licensing, copyright considerations, Freedom of Panorama, and successful content partnership models from Africa and other regions of the world.
The Wiki Lunch and Learn will also serve as a platform for initiating conversations around openness within the cultural heritage sector, highlighting the role that galleries, libraries, archives, and museums can play in making knowledge more accessible to the public. By fostering dialogue on open access and collaborative partnerships, the event seeks to encourage greater institutional participation in preserving and sharing cultural heritage through Wikimedia projects and other open knowledge platforms.
The Wiki Lunch and Learn will take place on 25 June 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Description of the Activity
The Wiki Lunch and Learn was a two-hour capacity-building and knowledge-sharing event hosted at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA). The event introduced staff members to the Wikimedia ecosystem, with a focus on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata. Participants learned about open knowledge, copyright, Creative Commons licensing, Freedom of Panorama, and how cultural heritage institutions can contribute to open-access initiatives.
The session combined presentations with hands-on practical activities, allowing participants to create Wikimedia accounts, edit Wikidata, upload media to Wikimedia Commons, and explore how Wikimedia projects can support archival and museum work.<br>
