Als het goed is, staat het al in je agenda voor zaterdag 20 juni 2026, het verjaardagsfeest van Wikipedia. 

Kom jij op het feest in Utrecht? En zou je het leuk vinden als je dan niet alleen huidige collega’s kan ontmoeten, maar ook mensen van vroeger? Mensen die je de laatste jaren niet meer ziet? Ook door hen is Wikipedia gegroeid en sterk geworden. Help jij mee om hen uit te nodigen voor het feest, zodat we samen kunnen proosten op de toekomst?

Ik zou je daarom willen vragen om oud-collega’s, mensen die de Nederlandstalige Wikipedia of Wikisource om wat voor reden dan ook verlaten hebben, uit te nodigen. Mensen met wie jij het goed kon vinden. Heb je een mailadres? Stuur zo iemand een persoonlijk mailtje, waarin je zegt hoe leuk je het zou vinden als die persoon komt. I. Het zout is voor onze gezondheid noodzakelijk; zeker heeft de lezer dit reeds menigwerf hooren beweren.

Tot regt begrip van hetgeen ik daaromtrent misschien minder bekends wilde zeggen, is het echter noodzakelijk, voorloopig mede te deelen, dat het zout uit twee grondstoffen bestaat, en wel uit een metaal, sodium en een gasvormig ligchaam, dat men chloor heeft genoemd. Wij zullen daarop zoo straks terug komen.

Men kan derhalve keukenzout maken, door in chloorwater een stukje sodiummetaal te werpen, en het vocht te laten verdampen, als wanneer er zoutkristallen achterblijven.

Welke rol speelt nu deze verbinding bij onze spijsvertering?

Indien men eiwit in maagsap tracht op te lossen, dat verkregen wordt door het maagslijmvlies met water uit te trekken, en met een weinig zoutzuur zuur te maken, dan lost dit sap gestold eiwit, bij 36° C., in 5 uren tijds op; kaasstof lost het in dien toestand in 5½ uur op. Voegt men evenwel bij het op bovengenoemde wijze verkregen maagsap een en een half percent keukenzout, dan wordt, onder overigens gelijke omstandigheden, het eiwit opgelost in 2½ uur, en de kaasstof in minder dan 3 uren; dus in ongeveer de helft van deden tijd. Men schrijft ook aan het keukenzout een bederfwerend vermogen van het maagsap toe.

Wordt aan een mensch of dier de toevoer van zout onthouden, door hem stoffen toe te dienen, waarin het zout geheel ontbreekt, dan wordt de geheele spijsvertering in de maag gestoord, en, ten gevolge van de veel geringere oplossing der eiwitachtige stoffen, is de voeding onvolledig.

Te veel zout kan, zooals bekend is, een buitengewonen dorst, zelfs braking, ja ook den dood veroorzaken. Voor sommige lagere diersoorten is het een waar vergif. Wij zien dit bij den bloedzuiger en den kikvorsch bevestigd.

Het zout ligt door ons geheele ligchaam verspreid. Het maagsap bevat {{smaller|{{frac|1|5}}}} percent, het bloed {{smaller|{{frac|1|2}}}} tot {{smaller|{{frac|3|5}}}} percent, en de chijl zelfs {{smaller|{{frac|7|10}}}} percent keukenzout.

Altijd geschiedt die opneming door de chijl; de bloedvaten nemen dan alleen ook zout op, wanneer de oplossingen, die gebruikt worden, zeer verdund zijn.

Het grootste gedeelte van het opgenomen zout wordt als zoodanig weder uit het ligchaam verwijderd, en wel bijna geheel en al door de urine.

De heeren {{sc|c.fr. köhler}} en {{sc|d. moojen wz}}., te Oude Tonge, berigten mij, in dato 7 Junij, dat zij naar aanleiding van het over de waarneming van vallende sterren, op pag 4 en 5 van het bijblad van dit jaar medegedeelde, zich van tijd tot tijd met die waarneming bezig houden, en zeggen voorts:

&quot;Gisteren avond werd door ons een prachtig luchtverschijnsel waargenomen: een vuurbol met eenen glans, zeker vijf maal helderder dan dien van Syrius, en eene middellijn ruim drie maal grooter dan Venus. De glans nam van 't ontstaan af meer en meer toe. De lichtende streep, die het naliet, scheen hier en daar weder kleinere vuurbollen te bevatten, althans zij vertoonde enkele zeer vurige stippen. Onmiddellijk na 't verdwijnen van 't verschijnsel verdween zij.

Het had plaats den 6 Junij, ongeveer 8 minuten over tienen op onze klok, die waarschijnlijk eenige minuten vóór den middelbaren tijd van Amsterdam was. Het ving aan ongeveer op 20 graden boven den horizon in 't sterrebeeld de Weegschaal, en wel tusschen de twee helderste sterren van dit beeld, en bewoog zich van 't Noord ten Oosten naar Zuid ten Westen, tot op enkele graden ten W. van de ster van 't zelfde beeld, die met de twee genoemden een driehoek vormt. De lengte der zigtbare baan was ongeveer 10°.

Toen de vuurbol ongeveer 6 gr. had afgelegd, barstte hij eensklaps uiteen. Van de twee bollen, die daardoor ontstonden, bleef de eene in de gezegde rigting voortgaan, terwijl de andere eene meer westelijke rigting aannam. De eerste had een rood-, de laatste een blaauw achtig licht.

De twee bollen, die nagenoeg even groot waren, vertoonden zich, elk in 't bijzonder, volstrekt niet kleiner dan vóór de scheiding; beiden hadden een lichtstreep achter zich. Drie à vier seconden na de losbarsting verdwenen de beide bollen tegelijk. Het geheele verschijnsel duurde ongeveer 6 seconden. Geluid werd er niet bij waargenomen.&quot;

Ik deel hier deze waarneming mede en merk daarbij aan, dat dergelijke voor de wetenschap waarde kunnen verkrijgen, als zij aanhoudend, naar een zelfde plan, door een zoo ver mogelijk uiteenwonend aantal waarnemers gelijktijdig worden gedaan.

Uranus vertoont zich aan den hemel als een naauwelijks merkbaar schijfje, nagenoeg gelijk aan eene ster van de zesde grootte. Bij heldere lucht kan zij ook door het ongewapend oog worden waargenomen.

Alhoewel dit hemelligehaam reeds vroeger door sommige sterrekundigen was opgemerkt en als eene der vaste sterren in hunne sterrekaarten was aangeteekend, komt aan {{Sc|herschel}} de eere toe, dat hij het eerst de aandacht der sterrekundigen op dit ligchaam heeft gevestigd. Het was den 18 Maart 1781, dat hij dit hemelligchaam ontdekte, hetwelk in het eerst door hem en anderen voor eene komeet werd aangezien. Bij voortgezet onderzoek leerde hij het echter weldra als eene planeet kennen.

Deze planeet ís nog tweemaal zoo ver als Saturnus, meer dan 19 maal zoo ver als onze aarde van de zon verwijderd. Haar gemiddelde afstand bedraagt 396.737 500 geogr. mijlen. Om op dien ontzaggelijken afstand haar wijden loopkring rondom de zon te volbrengen, heeft zij eene tijdruimte noodig van 84 jaren, 5 dagen, 19 uren, 41 minuten, 36 sekonden.

Op haren gemiddelden afstand van onze aarde vertoont zij ons eene middellijn van 3&lt;sup&gt;u&lt;/sup&gt;,9. Indien wij nu voor elke sekonde ééne Nederlandsche streep nemen, dan zouden wij ons de schijnbare grootte van

In deze figuur stelt A ons de planeet Jupiter voor in haren versten, B in haren gemiddelden en C in haren naasten afstand van de aarde. Saturnus wordt ìn haren versten afstand door D, in haren gemiddelden door E en in haren naasten afstand door F aangeduid, terwijl G het schijfje voorstelt, hetwelk Uranus ons aan den hemel vertoont.

Uit deze schijnbare grootte, vergeleken met den afstand van de zon, volgt, dat haar ware middellijn 4,3 aardmiddellijnen bedraagt, hetwelk gelijk staat aan eene middellijn van 7894 geogr. mijlen. Haar geheele ligchaam heeft dus een omvang 82 malen grooter dan onze aarde. Hare massa zoude volgens {{sc|lamont}} één 246051e gedeelte der zonnemassa bedragen en zij derhalve in gewigt onze aarde bijna 15 malen overtreffen. Daaruit zoude dan weder volgen, dat zij uit eene stof moet bestaan, die veel ligter is dan die onzer aarde. Stelt men de digtheid onzer aarde = l, dan is die van Uranus = 0.178. De zwaarte der ligchamen op hare oppervlakte overtreft slechts weinig

De ligchamen, die in hunnen val op onze aarde in eene sekonde 15 voeten doorloopen, leggen op de oppervlakte van Uranus in dienzelfden tijd 15,9 voeten af.

De zon doet zich aan deze planeet voor als eene lichtende schijf, met eene middellijn van slechts 100 sekonden, derhalve 19 malen kleiner dan de zon zich aan onze aarde voordoet. Zij heeft dien ten gevolge nog niet het dubbele der grootte, die de planeet Venus in haren naasten stand voor onze aarde heeft. De geheele zigtbare oppervlakte van de zon is dus voor Uranus 360 maal kleiner dan voor onze aarde. Een gevolg daarvan is, dat de zon aan haar ook in dezelfde verhouding minder licht en warmte afgeeft. Stellen wij het licht- en warmtegevend vermogen van de zon op onze aarde = 1, dan zou dit op Uranus slechts bedragen 0.003.

Daar deze planeet zoo buitengewoon ver van onze aarde verwijderd is, heeft men op hare oppervlakte, tot hiertoe, geene vlekken of oneffenheden kunnen ontdekken. Zij vertoont zich als eene kleine, ronde, doffe, maar over het geheel gelijkmatig verlichte schijf. Het is dan daarom ook niet mogelijk den tijd te bepalen, waarin de planeet zich om hare as rondwentelt. Dat evenwel hare aswenteling met groote snelheid moet plaats hebben, kan men opmaken uit de aanmerkelijke afplatting, die men aan de polen bespeurt. Reeds {{sc|herschel}} ontdekte deze afplatting, zonder hare grootte te bepalen. {{sc|Mädler}} meende na naauwkeurige waarnemingen ze op +, van de middellijn der planeet te moeten stellen. Andere sterrekundigen, zooals {{sc|struve}}, verklaren daarentegen, dat zij de gedaante der planeet volkomen kogelrond hebben bevonden.

Het kan ons geenszins verwonderen, dat de afplatting aan de polen van Uranus niet ten allen tijde wordt waargenomen. Wij weten, dat de wachters van Jupiter en Saturnus in banen, die nagenoeg met de vlakte van den aequator dier planeten zamenvallen, hunnen omloop om die planeten volbrengen. Als wij nu, wat reeds uit den aard der zaak hoogst waarschijnlijk is, ook aangaande Uranus vooronderstellen, dan volgt daaruit, dat de omwentelingsas van Uranus nagenoeg in de vlakte van hare loopbaan gelegen is: want de wachters, die deze planeet omzweven, doen dit in loopbanen, die loodlijnig op de loopbaan&lt;noinclude&gt;&lt;/noinclude&gt;</text>

Zoo dikwijls namelijk eene der polen naar onze aarde is toegekeerd, zal de planeet zich aan ons als een volkomen kogelrond ligchaam voordoen. Alleen dan, als de aequator van Uranus naar onze aarde is toegekeerd, zal de afplatting door ons met de meeste juistheid kunnen worden waargenomen.

Maar uit dien bijzonderen stand van Uranus op haren loopbaan vloeit een geheel eigenaardig karakter der jaargetijden en klimaten voort. Op Uranus zal het verschil der klimaten bijna geheel en al verdwijnen. Of eene plaats onder den evenaar of aan de polen ligt, zij zal evenzeer in den loop van het 84 jaren lange Uranus-jaar de hoogst mogelijke verscheidenheid van klimaten doorloopen. Als het zomer is in het noorder halfrond, staat de zon loodregt boven de noordpool en gaat voor het geheele noordelijk halfrond niet onder, terwijl het zuider halfrond op dien tijd in eenen donkeren nacht is gedompeld. Op plaatsen onder den evenaar ziet men de zon geregeld den geheelen horizon rondgaan. Als na verloop van 21 jaren — de duur van één jaargetijde op Uranus, — de herfst aanvangt, staat de zon loodregt boven den evenaar. De dagen en nachten zijn dan over den geheelen Uranus-bol aan elkander gelijk. Aan de beide polen ziet men de zon aan den geheelen horizon rondgaan. Dit tijdstip is voor het zuidelijk halfrond de zonsopgang, die eenen 42 jaren langen dag, voor het noordelijk halfrond de zonsondergang, die eenen even langen nacht voor het zuidelijk halfrond aanvangt. Is Uranus op hare baan eindelijk zoo ver gekomen, dat zij hare zuidpool aan de zon toekeert, dan is het daar zomer, aan de noordpool winter. De grens van licht en schaduw, van dag en nacht valt dan weder met den aequator zamen, en verschuift zich van lieverlede naar de andere zijde, totdat de zon weder boven den aequator staat en de lente met den opgang der zon voor het noordelijk halfrond aanvangt. De jaargetijden zijn derhalve op Uranus zoo scherp mogelijk van elkander verschillend. Indien onze aarde in eenen dergelijken stand op hare loopbaan geplaatst was, zou zij zeker voor wezens, zoo als wij, geheel onbewoonbaar zijn,
