Wikipedia logo
Hello again!
Congratulations on having your languages usable as an interface language! :)
Another thing to improve the setup of your Wikipedia is to have a proper logo. If I understand correctly, "Wikipedia" is written the same way as in English. The words "The Free Encyclopedia" must be translated. Some notes:
* "Free" must not be in the sense of "zero kwacha". It must be in the sense of "freedom". For more details, see this essay.
* "Encyclopedia" must be translated in the sense of "encyclopedia", not "dictionary". (I'm mentioning it because people often make this mistake.)
I see that the main page says "Nkhokwe ya vinjelu yaulele". Can it be used? Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 07:55, 24 Juni 2022 (UTC)
:Greetings Amir!
:Honestly,i am overjoyed to see Tumbuka Wikipedia in Tumbuka language.Thanking you for giving me links and tips on how to translate it into Tumbuka.I sacrificed all the time i had to translate it since i was the only one who could do it.
:For the Wikipedia Logo that reads "Wikipedia" in Tumbuka it reads "Wikipediya" and the motto "The Free Encyclopedia" translates "Nkhokwe ya vinjeru Yaulele".
:Yes "Nkhokwe ya vinjeru Yaulele" can be used.
:And once again! Thank you so much Amir!
:I had a little question:
:If i finish translating other translations including error messages,among other things,will they appear live in Tumbuka Wikipedia after few days? Since there are still more words and sentences to be translated and if i am not mistaken,there are probably 45,200+ words to be translated. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 11:53, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)
::Yes, everything that you translate in translatewiki.net before Monday, is usually automatically copied to Wikipedia on Thursday evening.
::The number 45,200 looks too big :) . I am not sure where did you take this number. If you count all the strings in MediaWiki and extensions used on Wikimedia sites, then it's about 24,000 strings. However, a lot of them are very technical and are necessary only for a few people. I recommend translating everything that appears on your translatewiki.net user page—these are the really important things. And invite your friends to help you! If you bring a few friends who can write Tumbuka, each of you can work on a different item from that list. Then it will be much faster :)
::I also recommend reading this blog post and watching this video. They will give you some useful tricks to become better and more efficient. Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 14:18, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)
:::... Actually, I need to check: Is it "Nkhokwe ya vinjeru yaulele" or "Nkhokwe ya vinjelu yaulele"? That is, with the letter L or the letter R? The main page says "vinjelu", but you've written "vinjeru". Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 14:24, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)
::::It is "Nkhokwe Ya Vinjelu Yaulele". the capital letters at the beginning of each word corresponds to the way the original "The Free Encyclopedia" words are written into.
::::Yes i meant 24,000.
::::I will translate them and i will invite friends too to help me. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 18:00, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)
:::::You don't really have to write them all in capital letters as in English. English style requires capital letters on every word of a title, but most languages actually don't require. You are supposed to write capital in the way that is correct in the grammar and style of your language. For example: in French, only the first letter is capital (L'encyclopedie libre).
:::::With that in mind, do you still want to write "Nkhokwe Ya Vinjelu Yaulele", or something different? Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 06:50, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)
::::::Hello Amir,
::::::I didn't see this question as it was hidden inside other paragraphs.

::Great. I will paste texts for the Vital articles that every Wikipedia should have:
::* Gottfried Wilhelm (von) Leibniz (1 July 1646 – 14 November 1716) was a German polymath active as a mathematician, philosopher, scientist and diplomat. He is one of the most prominent figures in both the history of philosophy and the history of mathematics. He wrote works on philosophy, theology, ethics, politics, law, history and philology. Leibniz also made major contributions to physics and technology, and anticipated notions that surfaced much later in probability theory, biology, medicine, geology, psychology, linguistics and computer science. In addition, he contributed to the field of library science: while serving as overseer of the Wolfenbüttel library in Germany, he devised a cataloging system that would have served as a guide for many of Europe's largest libraries. Leibniz's contributions to this vast array of subjects were scattered in various learned journals, in tens of thousands of letters and in unpublished manuscripts. He wrote in several languages, primarily in Latin, French and German, but also in English, Italian and Dutch.
::* Sophocles (Ancient Greek: Σοφοκλῆς; c. 497/6 – winter 406/5 BC) is one of three ancient Greek tragedians whose plays have survived. His first plays were written later than, or contemporary with, those of Aeschylus; and earlier than, or contemporary with, those of Euripides. Sophocles wrote over 120 plays, but only seven have survived in a complete form: Ajax, Antigone, Women of Trachis, Oedipus Rex, Electra, Philoctetes and Oedipus at Colonus.
::* Disambiguation page
::* History is the study and the documentation of the past. Events before the invention of writing systems are considered prehistory.
::* Civilization: A civilization is any complex society characterized by the development of a political state, social stratification, urbanization, and symbolic systems of communication beyond natural spoken language (namely, a writing system).
::* History of Africa: The history of Africa begins with the emergence of hominids, archaic humans and - around 300–250,000 years ago—anatomically modern humans (Homo sapiens), in East Africa, and continues unbroken into the present as a patchwork of diverse and politically developing nation states. The earliest known recorded history arose in Ancient Egypt, and later in Nubia, the Sahel, the Maghreb and the Horn of Africa.
::* Economy: Malawi is among the world's least developed countries. Around 85% of the population lives in rural areas. The economy is based on agriculture, and more than one-third of GDP and 90% of export revenues come from this. In the past, the economy has been dependent on substantial economic aid from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and other countries. Malawi was ranked the 119th safest investment destination in the world in the March 2011 Euromoney Country Risk rankings.
::* Agriculture and industry: The economy of Malawi is predominantly agricultural. Over 80% of the population is engaged in subsistence farming, even though agriculture only contributed to 27% of GDP in 2013. The services sector accounts for more than half of GDP (54%), compared to 11% for manufacturing and 8% for other industries, including natural uranium mining. Malawi invests more in agriculture (as a share of GDP) than any other African country: 28% of GDP.
::* Infrastructure: As of 2012, Malawi has 31 airports, seven with paved runways (two international airports) and 24 with unpaved runways. As of 2008, the country has 797 kilometres of railways, all narrow-gauge, and, as of 2003, 24,866 kilometres of roadways in various conditions, 6,956 kilometres paved and 8,495 kilometres unpaved. Malawi also has 700 kilometres of waterways on Lake Malawi and along the Shire River.
::* Science and technology
::* Research trends: Malawi devoted 1.06% of GDP to research and development in 2010, according to a survey by the Department of Science and Technology, one of the highest ratios in Africa. This corresponds to $7.8 per researcher (in current purchasing parity dollars).
::* Demographics: Malawi has a population of over 18 million, with a growth rate of 3.32%, according to 2018 estimates. The population is forecast to grow to over 45 million people by 2050, nearly tripling the estimated 16 million in 2010. Malawi's estimated 2016 population is, based on most recent estimates, 18,091,575.
::* Ethnic groups: Malawi's population is made up of the Chewa, Tumbuka, Yao, Lomwe, Sena, Tonga, Ngoni, and Ngonde native ethnic groups, as well as populations of Chinese and Europeans.
::* Languages: The official language is English.[115] Major languages include Chichewa, a language spoken by over 57% of the population, Chinyanja (12.8%), Chiyao (10.1%), and Chitumbuka (9.5%). Other native languages are Malawian Lomwe, spoken by around 250,000 in the southeast of the country; Kokola, spoken by around 200,000 people also in the southeast; Lambya, spoken by around 45,000 in the northwestern tip; Ndali, spoken by around 70,000; Nyakyusa-Ngonde, spoken by around 300,000 in northern Malawi; Malawian Sena, spoken by around 270,000 in southern Malawi; and Tonga, spoken by around 170,000 in the north. All students in public elementary school receive instruction in Chichewa, which is described as the unofficial national language of Malawi. Students in private elementary schools, however, receive instruction in English if they follow the American or British curriculum.
::* Religion: Malawi is a majority Christian country, with a significant Muslim minority. Government surveys indicate that 87% of the country is Christian, with a minority 11.6% Islamic population. The largest Christian groups in Malawi are the Roman Catholic Church, of which 19% of Malawians are adherents, and the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) to which 18% belong. The CCAP is the largest Protestant denomination in Malawi with 1.3 million members. There are smaller Presbyterian denominations like the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Malawi and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Malawi. There are also smaller numbers of Anglicans, Baptists, evangelicals, Seventh-day Adventists, and the Lutherans.
::* Health: Malawi has central hospitals, regional and private facilities. The public sector offers free health services and medicines, while non-government organizations offers services and medicines for fees. Private doctors offer fee-based services and medicines. Health insurance schemes have been established since 2000. The country has a pharmaceutical manufacturing industry consisting of four privately owned pharmaceutical companies. Malawi's healthcare goal is for "promoting health, preventing, reducing and curing disease, and reducing the occurrence of premature death in the population".

::* Education: In 1994, free primary education for all Malawian children was established by the government, and primary education has been compulsory since the passage of the Revised Education Act in 2012. As a result, attendance rates for all children have improved, with enrollment rates for primary schools up from 58% in 1992 to 75% in 2007. Also, the percentage of students who begin standard one and complete standard five has increased from 64% in 1992 to 86% in 2006. According to the World Bank, it shows that youth literacy had also increased from 68% in 2000 to 75% in 2015. This increase is primarily attributed to improved learning materials in schools, better infrastructure and feeding programs that have been implemented throughout the school system.[84] However, attendance in the secondary school falls to approximately 25%, with attendance rates being slightly higher for males.[135][136] Dropout rates are higher for girls than boys, attributed to security problems during long walks to school, as girls face a higher prevalence of gender-based violence. :::<u>ARTICLE REVIEW</u>
:::Thanks will translate them all later,and keep pasting when there are more.
:::And the other thing on this wiki that i discovered is that some several articles are in incorrect Tumbuka,and erroneously written.Erroneously written articles gives errored information to the readers as they believe what they read.
:::I know its something to do with new editors,and with time they will learn to be a pro.
:::Is it possible to review these articles before they stay on Wikipedia?
:::For example on English Wikipedia if you write an article about yourself(which is not advisable),other figures that are not important,etc,without adding references,citing,links,etc., the article gets nominated for deletion.
:::Its important to have articles sourced,cited,linked,etc as it gives a reader courage to keep on reading and that what they reading is true,correct and liable.Also an article that is not sourced doesn't mean it shouldn't be on Wikipedia,but in this case its about what it is about.
