Saarland

Saarland is a Bundesland of Germany. It has an area of 2568.45 km² and 1 065 000 inhabitants (2003). Saarland lies in the south-west of germany, near the French border near Metz. The capital is Saarbrücken.

- 1920 Through the Treaty of Versailles originated from parts of the Prussian Rhine Province (1465 km²) and the Rhine Palatinate (416 km²). The area was put under the control of the League of Nations for 15 years.
- 1935 After a suffrage Germany got the land back.
- 1945 After World War II the Saarland came under French administration.
- 1947 Saarland became autonomic.
- 1957 Germany got the Saarland back and it became a Bundesland

In the south is France, in the north-west Luxembourg and in the north and east is Rhineland-Palatinate.
Saarland is divided in 6 discrits:

- Saarbrücken

- Saar-Pfalz-Kreis (Saar-Palatinate-District)
