ALDI
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aldi is a company that can be found all over Germany and in parts of the European Union – Aldi shops are located almost everywhere and in every German town. Aldi even has branches in Australia.
The name of the shops stands for ALbrecht-DIscount. The company was started in 1913 as a family business, pioneering the idea of discount shops in Germany. In 1960 the company was split into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd (also spelled ALDI SÜD/ in english ALDI SOUTH).
The company is a retailer. This means it sells things to (single, private) customers. It does not make the things it sells. It is not a manufacturer. It also does not sell to big companies alone. It is not in the wholesale business. The company buys many products and sells them to private customers.
Aldi offers a wide range of products. This means that it has a lot of different articles! Aldi mostly deals in food and everyday articles. It sometimes even offers cheap first- class computers of a very high quality – if that happens some people spend a long cold night in front of the shop window in order to be among the first to get in!
People who go shopping at Aldi are the customers . Even very rich and wealthy people buy things there, e.g. Mrs Quandt, one of the owners of BMW, is known to be a customer. However, in an Aldi shop you should not expect to get too much service. Their business philosophy seems to be: No extras, no services, no music, no electronic cash – only articles at extremely low prices.
If you are a supplier for Aldi, you should be prepared to sell your products to the company at a very low price. That´s why ALDI North and Aldi South make a lot of profit. Aldi is owned by the Albrecht brothers. They founded their company in the 1960s, but they are already some of the richest people in the world!
