Project management

Project management is the way how one organizes and manages resources that they deliver all the work that is necessary to complete a project.
That includes that one has to keep within the defined scope, time, and cost constraints. A project is something else than a process or an operation, which are log ongoing functional work to create the same product or service over and over again. The management of a project is very different and requires other technical skills.
Project Management is composed of several different types of activities such as:
- Planning the work or objectives
- Analysis & Design of objectives
- Assessing and controlling risk (or Risk Management)
- Estimating resources
- Allocation of resources
- Organizing the work
- Acquiring human and material resources
- Assigning tasks
- Directing activities
- Controlling project execution

Most projects, to be successful, must adequately document objectives and deliverables. These documents are a mechanism to align sponsors, clients, and project team's expectations.

Several national and professional associations exist which have as their aim the promotion and development of project management and the project management profession. The most prominent associations include:

- V-Modell (German project management method)
- HERMES (The Swiss general project management method, selected for use in Luxembourg and international organisations)
- OPM3
- ISO 10006:2003, Quality management systems - Guidelines for quality management in projects

So far, there is no known attempt to develop a project management standard available under the GNU Free Documentation License.
