Psyche is a mortal in Greek mythology. According to a story written by Lucius Apuleius in the 2nd century, Aphrodite was jealous of the beauty of Psyche. She asked her son Eros to make Psyche fall in love with the ugliest man on Earth. Eros shoots golden arrows, which make people fall in love. Unfortunately, he pricked himself with one of his arrows and fell in love with Psyche himself.

Psyche had a daughter, with Eros. In Greek mythology she is called Hedone; the Romans called her Voluptas. She is seen as the personification of lust.
