Guitar
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The guitar is string instrument played with the fingers, or a thin, small plastic pick. Guitars are usually made from wood, and they usually have metal or nylon strings.
[edit] How they are made
Guitars have a body, a neck and a head. The body of acoustic guitars is hollow, so that it will vibrate and make the sound of the instrument louder. Most guitars have six strings.
[edit] Types of guitars
Guitars may be acoustic, electric or both.
Guitars are used in a lot of musical styles, such as rock music, pop music, country music, and folk music. Guitars are made and repaired by people called luthiers. Guitars usually have six strings. Some guitars have 12 strings, which makes the instrument sound fuller.
Electric guitars have one or two pickups that pickup the sound. Electric Guitars have longer and smaller necks and the space between the strings and the neck is smaller which makes it easier to play. But because every tone is amplified so much, you have to mute (stop the string swinging) a lot.
Guitars are used in many different genres of music such as traditional regional Folk to modern Punk, Rock, Metal or Pop. It can be used as a rhythm or the leading melodic instrument.
