Apostrophe

An apostrophe is a form of punctuation used in writing. The following words have an apostrophe in them: can't, it's, Mike's.

Apostropes are used to show that some letters have been left out in an abbreviation

  • we'd = we would
  • I've = I have
  • it's = it is

Apostropes are used to show something belongs to someone (or something).

  • Mike's car = the car that belongs to Mike
  • Earth's surface = the surface of the earth.
