Bulgaria is a country in South-Eastern Europe established 632 AD. The capital and the biggest city is Sofia. The currency is the Bulgarian leva. Bulgaria is a member of the European Union. It is preparing to join the Euro zone. Therefore, Bulgaria would change over to the euro after several years. The current president is Georgi Parvanov. The population of Bulgaria is 7,8 million.
Bulgaria's official language is Bulgarian. The Bulgarian language is a Slavic language. It is related to languages like Serbian and Russian. Bulgaria became independent in 1908 from the Ottoman Empire. Bulgaria borders the Black Sea, Turkey, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, and Greece. One of the national heroes of Bulgaria is Vasil Levsky. His real name is Vasil Ivanov Kunchev. He was born in Karlovo in 1837.
