Root (mathematics)
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The root of a number is the number that, when multiplied by itself a given number of times, yields another number. For example, the square root of 64 is 8, because 8 times 8 is 64.
[edit] Symbol
The origin of the radical symbol is speculative, but many believe it comes from the letter r, the first letter of the Latin and German word radix which means the same mathematical operation.
