The 5 furlong post of Epsom Downs Racecourse where the English Derby is run. It indicates 5 furlongs from the finishing line. The riders pass this post about half a furlong before Tattenham Corner. (grid reference TQ224581 )

The post is only erected during race meetings. But the Coal and Wine Tax Post on the right of the picture has remained firmly rooted to the spot since 1861 - its roots are showing rather more than they should. It is a Grade II listed building see Images of England entry. Another Coal and Wine Tax Post can just be seen on the grassy knoll in the background - see [1]. For a view of the Epsom Grandstands and more on Coal and Wine Tax Posts see this external site.
