Arithmetic
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arithmetic is a simple branch of mathematics. It has to do with calculations that we make in everyday life. Many calculations can be done with four basic actions: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Arithmetic also includes more complex actions which are made from the four basic actions, such as: raising to the power, which is done with many multiplications. However, not all calculations can be done with arithmetic. Integration, for example, cannot be done with basic arithmetic. Arithmetic is also the main part of number theory which deals with relations between numbers, for example: which number is divisible by another (the other can be multiplied by something to give the first). It is the basis for calculations in all other branches of mathematics.
