Bamberg is a town in the Bavarian governmental district Upper Franconia and seat of the district administration Bamberg. It has ca 70,000 inhabitants. Bamberg is a university city and administrative city. Its Lord Mayor is Andreas Starke (SPD).

- Keesmann (since 1867 managed by one family)

- Maisel (since 1894)
The old part of town is worth seeing and belongs to the largest intact historical town centres in Germany. It has been a world cultural heritage in the list of the UNESCO since 1993.

The old-venerable Franconic emperor and bishop city extends over the fruitful Talaue (valley) of the river Regnitz. The river divides into two arms which flow into the river Main 7 km (4.35 miles) north the city centre. The nearest bigger cities are Coburg, Nürnberg, Bayreuth and Würzburg.

The city has a surface area of 54.58 square kilometers (21.1 sq miles). It is 9.6 kilometers (5.97 miles) from north to south and 9.7 kilometers (6.03 miles) from east to west.
