[edit] The Stories

The Doctor is a "Time Lord". He is not from planet Earth, but from another planet called "Gallifrey".

He travels through time and space in a spaceship called a TARDIS. His TARDIS is disguised as an old British police-box. (Real police-boxes were like telephone boxes, except they were only used for people to call the police, if they had a problem. They were used by the police, sometimes as work-stations until the 1960s.)

The inside of the TARDIS is much bigger than its outside (it is "dimensionally transcendental").

The Doctor usually travels with a "companion", the most recent being Martha Jones. These are people he has met in his adventures.

[edit] TARDIS

The TARDIS is the Doctors's time machine and spaceship that can travel through time and space. It has a special feature, called the Chameleon Circuit, that makes its outside change shape. It is stuck in the shape of a police telephone box. The farthest they have ever gone is 5 billion years into the future (in the episodes "The End of the World" and "New Earth". )

The TARDIS stands for "Time And Relative Dimension In Space".

[edit] Daleks

The Daleks are one of the most powerful races ever in the Doctor Who and are the Doctor's worst enemies. They cry "EX-TER-MIN-ATE!" when they are about to kill someone. The come in different colours, like bronze, black, red, white, gold, and silver. They were last seen in the two-part episode "Army of Ghosts"/"Doomsday" (2006). They are not robots, but horrible aliens kept in a metal casing. They are going to come back in the third series.

[edit] Cybermen

Cybermen are another of the enemies of the Doctor. They take people and turn them into machines. They stomp around saying "DELETE!". They change their look over time.

The Doctor has faced them many times and they are one of his worst enemies.

[edit] Regeneration

The Doctor has been played by ten actors so far.

In the story, when Time Lords are badly hurt, they "regenerate". When this happens, they look different, and they act differently. They do this instead of dying, so that they can live longer. A Time Lord can regenerate twelve times in total.

[edit] Time Lords

All of the Time Lords except the Doctor were killed in the "Time War". This was a big war with the Daleks. The Doctor ended the war by blowing up his planet, killing the Daleks and his own people. It has made him sad ever since.
