Schnapps

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schnapps is a type of distilled alcoholic drink. The word schnapps comes from the German word schnaps.

There are 2 types of schnapps. One type is the traditional German type. These drinks are usually clear alcoholic drinks. They are distilled from fermented cereals, roots, and fruits. Traditional German schnapps has no sugar or other flavoring added. It is similar in look and flavor to vodka with light fruit flavors. The alcohol content is usually around 40%.

The other type of schnapps is American. This type of schnapps is called a liqueur. Often, sugar or other ingredients are added for flavor. American schnapps come in many different flavors, for example peach, mint, or butterscotch. Also, the alcohol content is not as high as the German type. It is usually only about 20%.
