Sister
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In English, sister has two different meanings:
- if a woman has the same mother or father as someone else, she is their sister. A half-sister is a woman who has only one parent the same as someone else. Brothers and sisters can also be called siblings.
- Sometimes, people join a religious order (like a nun in a convent). A girl or woman who has joined an order like that, will also be called "sister", often followed by her name, e.g. "Sister Maria".
