Hispaniola

Hispaniola (from Spanish, La Españolais) is an island located in the Caribbean Sea. It is the second-largest island of the West Indies. Hispaniola is found between the islands of Cuba to the west, and Puerto Rico to the east. The island is shared by Haiti on its western part and the Dominican Republic on the eastern part of the island.

Christopher Columbus arrived on Hispaniola on December 5, 1492. On his second voyage in 1493, he created the first Spanish colony in the New World on it. Hispaniola was the only island visited on all four voyages by Columbus.
