The Colosseum (or Coliseum, originally known as Flavian Amphitheatre) is a large amphitheatre in the city of Rome. It was built between 72 and 80. Vespasian started the works, Titus completed them. It had a capacity of 45.000 - 50.000 people. It was used for gladiatorial contests, and other spectacles (like animal hunts, in which animals would hunt and eat convicted criminals; or in which gladiators would fight against animals).
