Many scientists and others are interested in the temperature record of Earth. The past 1000 years are of special interest. Various scientific methods are used in historical statistics. In this case, the history of earth's weather is studied. Some parts of how the temperature record of the earth is calculated may be controversial. Among scientists, there is predominant agreement. Sometimes, though, when these studies relate to environmental policy-making in the United States, disagreements over methodology arise.
