Jean-Philippe Rameau (born Dijon, September ? 1683; died Paris, 12 September 1764) was a French composer. He is famous for his music for harpsichord and for his operas. His best operas are: Hippolyte et Aricie, Castor et Pollux, and Dardanus. He is also famous for writing books on music theory.
