A meteor is what you see when a space rock is falling to Earth. It is often known as a shooting star or falling star and it is a bright light in the night sky. If it hits the ground, it is then called a meteorite and it will leave a hole in the ground called a crater. Meteors are actually meteorites (large pieces of rock floating in space that did not form planets) once the meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere and begin to break apart, they are known as meteors. Meteors are nothing like comets or asteroids they have been proven as its own identity. A meteor is made up of frozen gas, ice, and dust. There are three types of meteors, stony, stony iron and iron.Stony meteors are named because they are largly made up of oxygen, and rocks.Stony iron meteors are named because they are made up of more than 50% of iron and 50% of other rocks.Iron meteors are named because they are made of more than 85% of iron. \
