Your comment was at the right place and I saw it right away. Now, if only I can get you to end your comments with ~~~~... :-)
We had a big discussion about आदरार्थी बहुवचन some time ago. The qustion is, who differentiates between individuals that need to be addressed with आदर or not!?! While a majority of cases would not be contentious, a significant number of others will draw ire from one section of audience or another.
An example I had cited was, do you use आदरार्थी बहुवचन for Hitler? Mohammend Ghauri? Auranzeb? Pol Pot? The umpteen kings of umpteen kingdoms? Each of these individuals were आदरणीय to some part of the populace (some still are!!!) How does a person cross the line to become आदरणीय or otherwise? It is highly subjective and the point-of-view depends solely on the person writing an article.
My argument for using singular for most individuals (except for some genereally accepted ones, such as छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज, महात्मा गांधी, or other lumanaries from the Indian socio-political scene) is that doing so keeps it simple. There is less subjectivity involved.
Of course, if a section of our audience feels that a particular person must be elevated to the 'आदरणीय' status, they can propse it and after a suitable debate/exchange of views or information, required changes can be made.
I (and all contributors) must accept and agree that by addressing these individuals in the singular form, *no* disrespect is meant.
Hope that was clear!
