- This article is about the New Zealand supermarket, not the Northeast United States supermarket cooperative Foodtown (USA) or the Houston, Texas area store.
Foodtown is a New Zealand upscale supermarket chain owned by Progressive Enterprises. Foodtown operates 30 supermarkets throughout the country and is one of the first supermarkets to offer online shopping and loyalty cards. The newest store is in the recently built Auckland mall, Sylvia Park.
Although relatively large, Foodtown supermarkets store their stock on a separate location and not on its store shelves. The supermarkets also tend to be integrated with a shopping mall, and not as stand-alone shops. They usually have a deli and bakery, and lighting and presentation are a priority. Well staffed, they also sell more obscure and exotic products. For these reasons, Foodtown charges more than most other New Zealand supermarkets.
