ડૉ. વિક્રમ અંબાલાલ સારાભાઇ(૧૨ ઑગસ્ટ,૧૯૧૯–૩૧ ડીસેમ્બર,૧૯૭૧) ભારતના અગ્રગણ્ય વૈજ્ઞાનિકોમાંના એક છે. તે ભારતીય અંતરીક્ષ કાર્યક્રમ ના પિતા ગણાય છે.

[edit] Early Years
Vikram Sarabhai, was born in Ahmedabad, India to an affluent, business family. He was one of eight children of Ambalal and Sarla Devi.
He received his Tripos degree from St. John's College in 1940 and his Ph.D. from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 1947.

વિક્રમ સારાભાઇનૉ જન્મ અમદાવાદ, ભારતના ધનાઢ્ય ઔદ્યૉગિક પરિવાર માં થયૉ હતૉ. અંબાલાલ અને સરલાદેવીના આઠ સંતાનૉમાંના તેઓ એક હતા.

He studied cosmic rays under the Nobel laureate Dr.C. V. Raman at the Indian Institute of Science,(IISc), Bangalore from 1941 to 1945. His interest in solar physics and cosmic ray led him to set up many observation stations around the country. He was instrumental in establishing the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad in 1947.
After Dr Homi Bhabha ’s demise, Dr. Sarabhai continued his work at the Atomic Energy Commission of India. Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, current President of India, described it as his good fortune to work with Dr. Sarabhai.
Along with his work on the Science front, he took utmost interest and managed family business of Textiles and Pharmacuticals.
[edit] Indian Space Program
The establishment of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was one of his greatest achievements. He successfully convinced the government of the importance of a space programme for a developing country like India after the Russian, Sputnik launch.
Dr. Bhabha supported Dr. Sarabhai in setting up the first rocket launching station in the India. This center was established at Thumba near Thiruvananthapuram on the coast of Arabian Sea, primarily because of its proximity to the equator. After a monstrous effort in infrastructure, personnel, communication links, and launch pads, on November 21 1963 the inaugural flight was launched with sodium vapour payload.
As a result of dialogue with NASA, Dr. Sarabhai launched the Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) during July 1975 -July 1976.
Dr. Sarabhai's commenced project of fabrication and launching of an Indian Satellite. As a result of this, the satellite Aryabhata It was put in orbit in 1975 from a Russian Cosmodrome. This development furthered the indigenous capability for satellite launching from low-orbiting to synchronous levels.

He was married to the notable Classical Dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai. They had a son, Kartikeya and a daughter Mallika who went on to become a famous danseuse.
Vikram Sarabhai passed away in his sleep at a young age of 52 on 31 December 1971.
