Guaka 16:52 27 jun 2006 (UTC)

[allichay] Request
Greetings AlimanRuna!
Can you please kindly help me create a stub for this article - based on the German article.
Just 3-5 lines would be sufficient enough and your help would be very gratefully appreciated. Thankyou.

[allichay] Some questions
I think it's great what you are doing! I wish I could do the same in Bambara. I can't. Instead, it would be good to get more people with your type of skills to Wikipedia. I.e. people with writing skills in languages that are mostly oral. So I would like to ask you some questions in order to find out how. Feel free to not answer questions... or to write some more about your intentions. :) Maybe I will write it into a small interview. For sure I will talk to people about this at the upcoming Wikimania conference.
1. Where, how, how long, and why did you learn Quechua?
- I have been learning Quechua for about 15 years. I started it in my home city Berlin at the Free University. I was just interested in non-European cultures. I was studying natural sciences, but besides I continued learning Quechua with native speakers and also in Peru itself.
2. Since when do you know about Wikipedia?
- I've known it for about five years.
3. You started contributing to the Quechua Wikipedia not even two weeks ago. Since when do you know about the Quechua Wikipedia? And how?
- I just tried qu.wikipedia.org , because I was interested if it exists. That was about one year ago.
4. Why do you contribute to the Quechua Wikipedia?
- Because I just wanted to write some articles in Quechua, and I wanted definitely some articles to be represented at qu.wikipedia.org .

[allichay] Some follow up questions
I have tried getting faculties that teach Bambara interested in the Bambara Wikipedia, but I didn't get any response. However, maybe it's worth trying again, now that Wikipedia is much more widely known. Do you still have any contacts at the faculty where they teach Quechua?
- Little.
My hope is that, for Wikipedias in languages like Quechua, once they reach a certain amount of articles, they will attract more contributors. You already knew about the project a while ago. Why didn't you contribute earlier? Or did you contribute without logging in?
- No, I hoped native speakers would contribute enough articles soon. My first contribution was my own AlimanRuna Page.
I'm not sure, but Quechua seems to have an official spelling. Though hardly any Quechua speakers were taught to write (or read) in Quechua.
- Yes, there is an official spelling, used by the Peruvian and the Bolivian ministries of education. It has been invented recently.

I did meet Richi, a Quechua speaker who is really enthusiastic about the project, and he told me he wants to write for the project. He wrote some things, and I hope it will be understandable. What is your idea about this issue?
- Wonderful idea. I'd be grateful to see some of his contributions. Every article can be fixed concerning official spelling. Just encourage Richi in writing and uploading his articles to qu.wikipedia.org.
