[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] New discussion about Unicode 5.1 encoding

Please make your comments here at the top of the page. In due course I will archive all the previous discussion, though I have left it there for now. Evertype 07:57, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I made a font that is Unicode 5.1 conformant. It works on every major operation system's rendering system including Mac OS X (Apple Advanced Typography), Graphite (for Linux and some Windows apps) and OpenType for Windows Operating System. I plan to release it as FREE very soon. MyMyanmar 08:16, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I am currently testing the MyMyanmar Unicode font on Mac OS X. Evertype 19:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] What font for Unicode 5.1

Is there any font which complies with Unicode 5.1 encoding for various OSs? Is it Myanmar2? Thanks.

Please register and sign your posts. No, the NLP font does not offer Unicode 5.1 encoding for all platforms. Evertype 19:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
As I mentioned on the top of this page, MyMyanmar will offer font which compiles with Unicode 5.1 encoding for various platforms. MyMyanmar 12:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Has MyMyanmar released that 'multi-platform' version yet? Please add it to the list above with a URL to download if you have. By reading that Evertype is testing on MacOSX, I assumed Unicode 5.1 version of the font is released, but I can only find Unicode 4.1. Thanks. Luaye 10:16, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
No, MyMyanmar and I are testing privately. The font will be called "Anawrahta" and we hope to release it soon. It has full shaping behaviour not only for the Myanmar letters, but also for the minority-language additions. Evertype 11:37, 1 ဇူလိုင် 2007 (UTC)

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Available fonts

As for now, I have found the following fonts fitting with Unicode 5.1

  • PadaukOT by Than Lwin Soft (Supports both Graphite -far superior than Microsoft's Uniscribe - and OpenType)
--sample page[1]-ပြင်ဆင်ထားသည်။

Both free (OFL / LGPL). Testing these fonts according to the notes from Unicode.org: Representing Myanmar in Unicode shows that Myanmar2 does not produce ယ္အ correctly.
Myanmar2 download page says that it include "proposal characters to 29th IUC Conference" [2] which confuses me if that means their font is not fully compatible with Unicode 5.1

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Font Previews

12pt font previews generated on Windows Mail @ Vista 64

  • Image:Arial_preview.gif
  • Image:Myanmar2_preview.gif
  • Image:Padauk_preview.gif
  • Image:Parabike_preview.gif

The comparison with English font (Arial) shows that Myanmar2 and Padauk fonts have smaller english fonts. As a result, this would not be great to mix English and Myanmar fonts in the same document.

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Previews for incorrect font/encoding

The following is to give you an idea of what you can expect to see in different font and encoding enviroments. Myanmar1 font is Unicode4 compliant. Myanmar2 font is unicode 5 compliant.

  • Unicode 5, correct encoding, Myanmar2 font: Image:Mm2_5.gif
  • Unicode 5, no encoding, Myanmar2 font: Image:Mm2_5_noencoding.gif
  • Unicode 5, correct encoding, Myanmar1 font: Image:Mm1_5.gif - the behaviour here is wrong; there should be a subscript RA.
  • Unicode 5, no encoding, Myanmar1 font: Image:Mm1_5_noencoding.gif

  • Unicode 4, correct encoding, Myanmar1 font: Image:Mm1_4.gif
  • Unicode 4, no encoding, Myanmar1 font: Image:Mm1_4_noencoding.gif
  • Unicode 4, correct encoding, Myanmar2 font: Image:Mm2_4.gif
  • Unicode 4, no encoding, Myanmar2 font: Image:Mm2_4_noencoding.gif

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Font size here at my.wiki

I don't know if it is only me (I tested on 3 machines) but - both English and Myanmar texts are very small to unreadable. Whats going on? At least say in home page or somewhere visible what viewers need to do please.

"chip-in" My browser Firefox is configured to use Padauk OT font size 12, and it's COOL.

I use latest Firefox and have ONLY Padauk OT font in my font folder. No need to change any configuration. All working alright.Mozilla Suite browser also same .But Internet Explorer 7, one has to configure to use Padauk OT thru Internet Options tab/font -.[3]
